Cameroun vs Brazil

Qatar 2022 – Cameroun Crashed Out Despite Beating Brazil

Vincent Aboubakar’s injury-time goal gave Cameroon a 1-0 victory over Brazil, making them the first ever African team to overcome Brazil at the FIFA World Cup.

A win over five-time winners Brazil, who made nine changes after qualifying early from a record 10th successive group stage with a late 1-0 win over Switzerland, would give Cameroon the chance to advance to the World Cup knockout stages for the first time in 32 years.

When Fred floated a cross towards Gabriel Martinelli, the forward’s header was deflected over by Devis Epassy as the rotating Seleço side swiftly got to work keeping their perfect record in Group G.

The opportunity did little to deter a Cameroon team that was determined to become the first team to ever win a World Cup group stage match, and Nouhou Tolo’s strong cross had Ederson on guard as the goalkeeper deflected the shot.

Despite having limited possession of the ball, Cameroon came close to taking the lead at halftime when Bryan Mbeumo’s header was palmed away by Ederson. Mbeumo was the first player to shoot at goal against Brazil in Group G.

Cameroon produced a valiant display to defeat a second string, yet still talented, Brazil and the victory was not enough to prevent the Indomitable Lions’ early World Cup exit. Brazil rarely threatened and looked disjointed in defeat, although Tite’s decision to rest key players could prove fruitful in the knockout rounds.
